GAME SUMMARY - The big hero was Sidney Crosby scoring at the 7:40 mark of overtime to give Canada a 3-2 victory over the United States. For the 22 year old Crosby, it was a Stanley Cup and now the Gold Medal, all with in one year.
Canada took a 2-0 lead only to see the Americans come back with a goal in the second period and with only 24:4 seconds remaining in the game, score to force the overtime.
It was Mike Richards carrying the puck out from behind the right side of the net and turned around and shot. Jonathon Toews scored on the rebound at the 12:50 mark.
In the second period, Ryan Getzlaf carried the puck down the left boards and passed to Corey Perry in front of the net. Perry shot the puck and it dribbled just over the goal crease at 7:13, also assisted by Duncan Keith. The Americans got on the score board at 12:44 as Patrick Kane shot from the right side of the blue line and Ryan Kessler skating in towards the right side of the net redirected the puck into the net.
In the third period the Canadians had numerous chances to score; 50 seconds into the period, Towes hit the right goal post, then 2 minutes later Proger hit the left post. Crosby with 3 minutes remaining in the period had a break-a-way only to have the puck get away from him. With 1:30 left in the period, United States pulled goaltender Miller for an wxtray attacker. With but 24:4 seconds remaining the Americans scored to force overtime. It was Zach Parise doing all the work, as he carried the puck from behind the net and turned and shot, scoring right in front of the net on his rebound
In overtime with bothe teams playing 4 (men) on 4 for a 20 minute sudden death period, it was Sidney Crosbey carrying the puck down the left boards cutting over to the right corner, leaving the puck for Jerome Iniglia who in turn passed to Crosby at the left side of the net.
