The Pats visit the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM with Broadcaster Rod Pedersen and Colorman Dan Plaster, (Press Box Sports Bar Pre-game Show at 6:35 pm). Regina Pats play-off chances went out the window last night with they lost to the Swift Current Broncos 6-4.

GAME SUMMARY - By Rod Pedersen.blog - SASKATOON -- Rookie Pats goalie Dawson Guhle made 19 saves for his first career shutout and Regina upset the number-one team in the WHL 3-0 Saturday night in Saskatoon.

As usual, Jordan Eberle stole the show with a pair of goals - his 44th and 45th of the season, (It moved Eberle into first place in the WHL Scoring Race for the moment with 93 points, one ahead of second place Craig Cunningham, Vancouver and Brandon Kozun, Calgary) - as the Pats snapped a three-game slide. After a scoreless opening period, Eberle opened the scoring on a high light-reel goal which beat Blades goalie Adam Morrison at 2:08 of the second period.

Matt Strueby upped the Pats lead to 2-0 just 4:12 into the third period with his 34th of the year. Blades coach Lorne Molleken pulled Morrison with 2:25 to go but with 1:57 left, Eberle buried a pass from Strueby into the empty net for his 45th of the campaign.

It was a huge upset, but Pats fans will be left to wonder if it's too little too late. With the win the Pats remained nine points behind Swift Current for the final playoff spot with seven games to go. The Broncos beat Vancouver 4-3 Saturday night. It was nice to see Eberle deliver again as I know several people bought tickets to see the Canadian world junior star. He did not disappoint, nor did his teammates.

By: Ron C. Johnston - Canada Men's Hockey Team will get a second chance for the Gold Medal against the Americans this coming Sunday as they held on in the dying moments of a 3-2 victory over Slovakia.

Canada took a 3-0 lead and, with just over 9 minutes remaining in the contest, the fans started to chant "Bring on the Americans". That seemed to wake the Slovakian team up as they scored two goals in three and a half minutes.

After a long shot from the right side of the blue line by Shea Weber, the puck was redirected by Patrick Marleau on a waist high stick at the right side of the net into the goal at the 13:30 mark, assisted by Scott Niedermayer. Then, less than two minutes later Brendon Morrow, parked at the left side of the net, tipped in Chris Pronger's screen shot from the left side of the blue line at 15:17.

The only goal in the second period had Ryan Getzlaf score a power play goal at 16:54 in front of the net, assisted by Corey Perry and Pronger.

In the third period on a delayed penalty, Slovakia's Lubomir Visnovsky carried the puck from Canada's blue line down the right boards and passed the puck out in front of the net. It went off a Canadian offender into the goal at 11:35. This sparked the Slovakian team as they scored their second goal at 15:07.

It was Richard Nednik who carried the puck around behind the net towards the left side and shot the puck as he came out in front. Michal Handzus scored on the rebound at the right side of the net.

In the last 90 seconds, with their goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, the Slovakians swarmed around the Canadian's net but could not score. With only five seconds remaining, a Slovakian did hit the goal post.

REGINA PATS - 4 vs. SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS - 6

It would be a shame to count the Pats out of the playoffs yet. Eight games is a lot of hockey and there are sixteen points out there to collect. They are chasing the Broncos and they play them twice in the next five days. It will make for interesting radio and hopefully good hockey. Faceoff tonight is 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM with Broadcaster Rod Pedersen and Colorman Dan Plaster. (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm) and tomorrow night we'll be in Saskatoon for a 7:00 pm date, also on the mighty 620 CKRM.

Canada plays Slovakia tonight at 8:30 pm in an Olympics Mens Hockey semifinal in Vancouver, so listen to Regina Pats game on the radio and at the same time watch Canada play Slovakia on Television . Sunday's gold medal final is at 2:15 pm.

GAME SUMMARY: by Ron C. Johnston - Two quick power play goals with in 34 seconds gave Swift Current a 2-0 lead. The first was a 5 on 3 as Michael Stickland scored on the 2nd rebound in front of the net at 4:05, assisted by Travis Bobbee and Dowling. The second was scored by Lowrie at 4:39, assisted by Bobbee and Stepan Novotny. Regina Pats then scored on a 2 on 1 break as Matt Strueby scored on the Swift Currents' Goalie Clark's stick side at 12:09, assisted by Carter Ashton. The Broncos out shot the Pats 22-7 in the first period.

It was a turn around as Regina Pats came out a tied the game at 3-3 after the second period. It started with a 5 on 3 power play goal by Jordan Weal at 5:22, a pretty 3 way pass, assisted by Matt Strueby and Jordan Eberle. Swift Current's Stickland scored his second goal, as he scored in front of the net to the top part of the net at 7:01, assisted by Taylor Vause. Regina Pats Hampus Gustfsson scored a knuckle ball shot with only 20 seconds remaining in the period, assisted by Eberle and Weal.

Regina Pats went up 4-3 at the 4:13 minute mark as Eberle recieved a pass from Carter Ashton and scored to the top of the net, also assisted by Colten Teubert. Swift Current tied the game on what was a bad call. A hand pass that all four officals missed resulted in Eagin scored a power play goal at 15:43, assisted by Dowling and Bobbee. (From Rod Pedersen's blog, -The Pats were wild as they thought Swift Current forward Justin Dowling gloved the puck from the high slot back to Eakin. Replays later showed the puck touched a Pats stick in between).

How many games have the Regina Pats lost this season due to bad officiating. Swift Current then went up 5-4 as Bobbee scored at 17:04 and Vause scored with only 28 seconds remaining from his knees into an open net.

Thanks to the bad call Regina Pats will miss the play-offs for the second year. The only good thing that came out of this game is that Jordan Eberle and Jordan Weal have moved into a three way tie with Craig Cunningham of Vancouver Giants for the scoring title, all with 92 points.

REGINA PATS - vs. MOOSE JAW WARRIORS

vs.

Tuesday, February 23 - By: Rod Pedersen - Regina Pats CKRM Broadcaster.

One single bad break in the third period Tuesday night could well sum up the way this 2009-2010 season has gone for the Regina Pats.

With the game tied 2-2 and just 4:39 minutes into the third, the Pats had six skaters on the ice due to a delayed penalty to the Warriors. In the Moose Jaw zone, a pass to the point went over Colten Teubert's stick and slithered all the way down into Regina's empty net. Dylan McIlrath of the Warriors got credit for the goal and although it wasn't the game winner, it was symbolic.

In what was likely a must-win game for the Pats, the teams were tied 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes on goals by Moose Jaw's Dylan Hood and Regina's Brett Leffler. It was 2-2 after two on goals by Hood and Regina's Myles Bell.

The McIlrath goal gave the Warriors a 3-2 third period lead although less than a minute later, Pats captain Colten Teubert tied the game 3-3 with a powerplay goal at 5:12 of the third period. But the Warriors' Quinton Howden got the eventual game-winner on a goal mouth scramble, beating Regina's Damien Ketlo at 12:51 to give the Warriors the one goal lead. They never gave it up.

Game over: Moose Jaw 4 Pats 3. Pats assistant coach Shaun Sutter called the McIlrath goal "a horrible break" on the postgame show and commented "in the end, that goal was the difference". The Pats now are seven points back of the Warriors for the final playoff spot with nine games left.

Regina outshot the Warriors 33-32 including 18-6 in the third period ... Regina was 1/4 on the powerplay and 2/4 killing penalties ... Pats fall to 26-30-3-4 and the Warriors improve to 29-24-4-4 ... Moose Jaw wins the Mayor's Cup season series 7-1 and Warriors' goalie Jeff Bosch was in net for all the wins including Tuesday night. Pats coach Curtis Hunt reportedly told reporters after the game that trading Bosch to Moose Jaw was "a mistake".

2010 OLYMPICS - CANADA MEN'S TEAM WIN THRILLER OVER SWITZERLAND IN A SHOOT OUT

Canada took a 2-0 lead only to see Switzerland come back and tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime. It finally went to a shoot out, in the first round no one was able to score. It was Crosby his second chance, this time in stead of try to deak, came straight down the centre and shot near the blue line for the win. (Photo: Sidney Crosby - Canada Press)

VANCOUVER, British Columba - TSN.ca -
For all those years growing up in Cole Harbour, N.S., Sidney Crosby dreamed of a moment just like this one - scoring a goal, in the shootout, to win a game for Canada at the Olympics.

But in the dream, said Crosby, "I scored on the first shot."

No matter. The script reads better this way.

In a wildly entertaining game played in front of a full house at Canada Hockey Place that came down to the fourth round of shooters - and permitted coach Mike Babcock to use Crosby a second time - Canada escaped with a narrow 3-2 victory over the Swiss, setting up a game on Sunday against the Americans, with top spot in Group A up for grabs.

For the second straight Olympics Switzerland has given Canada all that they can handle as they are heading to a shootout tied at two at in their Group ‘A' encounter.

The San Jose Sharks' dynamic duo opened the scoring as Patrick Marleau found his Sharks' running mate Dany Heatley who made no mistake, beating Jonas Hiller for his third of the tournament.

The Swiss' undisciplined play has cost them early in the second as Yannick Weber was called for hooking seconds into the second stanza. Canada made him pay immediately as Shea Webber's point shot deflected off Heatley to Marleau who banged it home.

Although Canada continued to attack, it was the Swiss who struck against the run of play as Rutheman's blast beat Martin Brodeur high-glove side to pull within one.

Canada's offence took a major hit in the second period when Raffaele Sannitz drilled Jarome Iginla with what appeared to be a hit to the head. Iginla left the ice dazed and did not take another shift in the game.

The Swiss continued to buzz around the Canadian net and they were eventually rewarded. With a penalty on the way to Chris Pronger, Patrick Von Guten's centering pass deflected off Marleau into the empty net to silence the fans at Canada Hockey Place.

There was plenty of anxious moments in the third but none more so than when Sidney Crosby hit the deck after taking a stick to the face by Andres Ambuhl. He left the ice bloodied but did return.

Whenever Canada pressed, Jonas Hiller was equal to the task, robbing Anaheim Ducks' teammates Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf on back-to-back scoring chances.

Hiller was certainly the difference in the frame as Canada continued to pepper him with shots as he came up with big saves on Heatley and Eric Staal to keep the sides level.

Team Canada's power play went back to work as Thierry Paterlini was called for a hook on Crosby, but Hiller and the Swiss penalty killers did a masterful job at keeping the Canadians at bay and sending this one to overtime.

Despite being outshot 18-3 in the period, the Swiss went to their dressing room excited about what transpired in the frame.

Very little was achieved in the extra frame so for the first time in the tournament there was a shootout to decide the result.

2010 - OLYMPICS - CANADIAN LADIES SCORE ANOTHER ONE SIDED VICTORY OVER SWEDEN 13-1

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - 9:30 PM ET

The Canadian women's hockey team came out with a dazzling showcase of its diverse scoring abilities on Wednesday as it clobbered Sweden 13-1 for its third straight lop-sided victory of the 2010 Olympics. The Canadian Team scored 7 goals in the second period to take a 12-0 lead going into the final period.

From skillful breakaways, to stunning two-on-ones to the fast and relentless pursuit of rebounds, the Canadian women scored in every way possible to proclaim loud and clear that they are at these Games to play their best, and they won't show any mercy to anyone.

Megan Agosta scored her second hat trick of the Olympics for eight goals in the team's three games, which ties the record for goals in a single Olympic tournament. She also added two assists.

Cherie Piper and Gillian Apps each added two goals and an assist, while single goals were added by Marie-Philip Poulin, Sarah Vaillancourt, Tessa Bonhomme, Jayna Hefford, Hayley Wickenheiser, and Haley Irwin.

At one point during the second period, the Canadians actually scored three goals in the span of 59 seconds.

With her latest goal - number 16 - Wickenheiser set a record for the most career goals at the Olympics, overtaking former Canadian player Danielle Goyette (15 goals).

The Canadians outshot the Swedes 52-13. Swedish star goaltender Kim Martin - the most outstanding goalie of the 2006 Turin Olympics - allowed ten goals and left the game in the middle of the second period in favour of Sara Grahn.

Canada's Kim St-Pierre made four saves in just over two periods, when Charline Labonte took over and made eight saves and allowing the lone Swedish goal.

Canada easily advances to the next round at the Games.

2010 - OLYMPICS - CANADA'S MEN TEAM BLANKS NORWAY 9-0

VANCOUVER, B.C. - These early Olympic men’s hockey games have never been easy for Canada.

That’s why there was a collective sigh of relief for head coach Mike Babcock and his staff when, after a nervous and goal-less opening 20 minutes, Canada busted out for an 8-0 win against Norway in the Olympic tournament opener at Canada Hockey Place on Tuesday. Jarome Iginla scored a hat trick, and Dany Heatley added a pair of goals to lead Canada offensively, while an underworked Roberto Luongo recorded the shutout as the Canadians outshot their underdog opponents 42-15.

The final goal, which came with less than two minutes to play, was originally credited to Nash, even though several fans tossed their caps on the ice in honour of Iginla. Replays confirmed the crowd's suspicion, and the International Ice Hockey Federation officially awarded Iginla the hat trick about four hours after the final horn.

This was the best start yet for Canada in the four Olympics since the NHL shut down its schedule to participate. Canada defeated Belarus 5-0 to open the Olympics in 1998, dropped a 5-2 decision to Sweden four years later and downed host Italy 7-2 to raise the curtain on the 2006 Winter Games.

"It’s the first one and we’ll get better," said Iginla, who now has eight goals in 13 Olympic games. "We were looking forward to this for a long time. To see all that red and white (in the near-capacity crowd of 16,652) was more than I imagined.

"It was a good game for our team to start the tournament that way. It’s great to get it going," the Calgary Flames captain said.

Grotnes yanked.

In the back of Babcock’s mind was the narrow 2-1 escape for Canada against Norway at the 2008 world championship, in which goalie Pal Grotnes made 50 saves. Grotnes was solid early in Tuesday’s game, but was yanked in the third period.

After a mistake-prone first period, in which the Canadians turned the puck over on too many occasions, Babcock altered his forward lines by promoting Iginla to a unit alongside Sidney Crosby and Rick Nash. Patrice Bergeron started the game with Nash and Crosby, but was dropped to an effective energy trio with Mike Richards and Jonathan Toews.

Iginla scored on the power play in the second period for Canada’s first goal, and finished off a nifty three-way passing play with Crosby and Nash for another marker in the third period.
"Part of playing for Team Canada, you’re excited whatever line combinations are, but also be ready for whatever role you’re asked," Iginla said. "Whether it’s part of an energy line or it’s PK, whether it’s playing the power play, it’s part of it. I imagine they’re probably going to change a lot throughout the tournament too.

"It’s pretty exciting to play with Sid. Every pass is in your wheelhouse, the saucers land, he’s, well obviously he’s a very dynamic player. He can shoot, he can do it all, he does it all."
Nash remarked that it was important to communicate plenty on the bench to expedite the chemistry experiment of the different combinations.

"We had four days [at the summer camp] in Calgary and that’s it," Nash said. "But I think we complement each other’s game. Hopefully we get better with each game.

"On the bench we talk, in-between periods is big, always trying to figure each other out and ask as many questions as possible."

'He's really dangerous'

Crosby registered three assists and enjoyed playing alongside Iginla in the final two periods.
"He finds those areas to get shots off and when he does, he’s really dangerous," Crosby said. "He goes to the net hard. You know what, I don’t think it really matters what the combinations are; when you’re out there, it’s a matter of creating things.

"Just playing together is the only way, and you have to make the most out of practice. I thought tonight as the game went on it got better. You try to play to their strengths."

The players were impressed with the atmosphere at the rink. The crowd’s energy was given a boost before the game when the scoreboard broadcasted a replay of the gold-medal snowboard cross run of North Vancouver’s Maelle Ricker and her trip to the top step of the podium.
Wayne Gretzky also was applauded when he was shown on the scoreboard in the first period.
Richards, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf scored the other Canadian goals.

Canada will meet Switzerland on Thursday in the second of three preliminary games. Veteran goalie Martin Brodeur will get the start.

One area Canada will work on in its next practice will be its defensive zone coverage because the Canadians spent plenty of time in Norway’s end in the opener.

2010 - CANADIAN LADIES HOCKEY TEAM DOWNS SIWTZERLAND 10-1

CANADA 10 – SWITZERLAND 1

CTV.ca - by Justin Piercy

The Canadian women's hockey team didn't set any scoring marks, but they moved to a 2-0 record on Monday with a 10-1 win over Switzerland at UBC Thunderbird Arena.

Meghan Agosta scored her fourth and fifth goals of the Olympic tournament, while Shannon Szabados made 11 saves as the Canadians kept their momentum after Saturday's record-setting 18-0 win over Slovakia.

Darcia Leimgruber's goal in the dying seconds of the second period broke the Canadian shutout streak and is the lone goal in the tournament for the Swiss, who were outshot 62-12.

Canada's next game — expected to be their biggest test so far — is Wednesday when they meet Sweden at 2:30 p.m. PT.

The Canadians buzzed around the net through the opening minutes of Monday's first period, throwing centring pass after centring pass through the crease of Swiss goaltender Florence Schelling.

The 20-year-old stood her ground, turning away nine straight shots even as the host team set up shop around her, sending 16 shots toward Schelling before the end of the first.

The Swiss mustered just two at Szabados through 20 minutes.

Holding penalty hurts Switzerland

A holding penalty to Swiss forward Stephanie Marty at 5:27 gave the Canadians even more room to operate, opening the scoring a minute into that advantage thanks to a Gillian Apps deflection of a Gina Kingsbury shot.

Rebecca Johnson's slashing call sent the teams to 4-on-4 and a shortened power-play chance for Switzerland.

Canada's Sarah Vaillancourt made it 2-0 on her second goal of the tourney, after she cleaned up a big rebound left by Johnson. Sprung from the penalty box, Johnson streaked down the ice flanked by a Swiss defender, but got a shot off, and Vaillancourt was there to bang home the loose puck.

The Swiss started the second with 35 seconds of power-play time, but Canada's Cherie Piper opened the scoring with an almost empty-net chance.

With Apps providing the screen on the top edge of the Swiss crease, Piper skated quickly across the slot and launched her shot past a diving Schelling for the 3-0 lead.

Meghan Agosta notched the next two goals to push the Canadian lead to 5-0.

Her fourth goal of the tournament came from redirecting a Catherine Ward shot from just inside the blue-line with more than half the period remaining.

A strong individual effort gave Agosta her fifth goal of the Olympics — skating in from the half-boards in the Swiss zone, she deked to her backhand and lifted the puck over Schelling's glove.
Canada's misses shutout

Shortly before the second period ended, the Swiss broke the Canadian shutout streak as Leimgruber got her stick on a rebound in front of Szabados, beating the goalie just over her outstretched blocker.

The Canadians rebounded quickly — 54 seconds into the final period, Jayna Hefford took the puck from her own blue-line, raced down the ice and potted a shorthanded goal to restore the five-goal lead.

Back-to-back individual efforts put Canada up 8-1 with just over half of the third period remaining.

Ward walked into the Swiss zone at 9:08 and blasted a slapshot over the shoulder of Schelling to make it 7-0. Nineteen seconds later, Marie-Philip Poulin blazed all the way from her own blue line and deked out Schelling with a backhand shot that rolled over her pads and into the net.
Goals by Johnson and Hayley Wickenheiser made it 10-1 and ended Schelling's night, as the Swiss goalie finished with 45 saves.

Backup netminder Dominique Slongo took over and stopped all seven shots she faced, including a Canadian 3-on-0 chance that saw Slongo deny the shot of Haley Irwin with less than three minutes remaining.

2010 - VANCOUVER OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES - WOMEN HOCKEY: CANADA - 18 vs. SLOVAKIA - 0

Ice Hockey: Canada crushes Slovakia 18-0 in record win

Vancouver (AFP) - Canada got their gold medal defence off to a rousing start with a record-setting 18-0 thrashing of Slovakia in their opening game of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games on Saturday.

Jayna Hefford and Meghan Agosta scored three goals each for Canada who set a record for the most lopsided win in women's Olympic hockey tournament history.

Canada also held the previous record for the biggest blowout, a 16-0 demolition of host Italy at the Torino 2006 Olympic Games.

"Our goal was too win the game, work on maintaining good habits and let the puck do the work," said Canada coach Melody Davidson.

"Regardless of the score we are please to see Slovakia competing here."

Hefford finished with a game-high six points in front of a crowd of 16,496 at the Canada Hockey Place arena.

Caroline Ouellette had a goal and four assists and Carla MacLeod had with two goals and two assists for Canada who scored a pair of shorthanded markers just 44 seconds apart in the second period.

Slovakia is making their first appearance in the women's tournament as they were promoted to the top level after winning the qualifying event.

Despite being outshot 67-9 Saturday Slovakia knows what it feels like to be on the other end of a lopsided score - in one of their exhibition games leading up to the Olympics they beat Bulgaria 82-0 in Latvia.

Slovakian coach Miroslav Karafiat said Bulgaria is a new nation to hockey and that game should probably never have happened.

"It was caused by the organization of Bulgaria," Karafiat said. "The Bulgarian team came to play only two weeks after being given their uniform and skates."

Despite Saturday's loss this was the greatest hockey moment for Slovakian defenceman Barbora Bremova who says she typically plays in front of a crowd of about 40 people, made up of mostly family members, at home.

She is one of just 263 registered female players in the country.

"It was an unbelievable experience," Bremova said through a translator. "I am disappointed we lost but it was incredible to play against Canadian players like Hayley Wickenheiser."

Reigning silver medallists Sweden opened the women's tournament earlier in the day by beating Switzerland 3-0.

Goaltender Kim Martin stopped all 16 shots and Uden Johansson had a goal and an assist for Sweden who upset the United States the 2006 Olympic Games to reach the gold medal game.
Martin was largely given credit for helping Sweden beat the United States 3-2 in the semi-finals in Turin. She did not play in the 2009 Worlds because of a knee injury.

This marked the first time that the number four ranked Sweden had played number five ranked Switzerland in the Olympic Games.

It is a weekend that may decide their fate the rest of the way. The hockey club is five points behind Moose Jaw and Swift Current for the final playoff spot with 14 games left to play. If they sweep the weekend, they've still got a chance. If they lose both games, their play-off hopes are gone.

REGINA PATS - JORDAN EBERLE - THE FUN OF BEING A HERO

Parts taken from Pats CKRM Broadcaster Rod Pedersen's blog.

Friday, February 12th. -

Friday Rodservations

However it came very apparent the other night in Brandon what life is like for Jordan Eberle. A guy emailed me the day before the game saying he'd be at the game and asked if I could introduce him to Jordan and get an autograph and a picture. I told him to meet us outside the dressing room after the game, but I couldn't guarantee why type of mood the team would be in.

After the postgame show I sauntered down to the dressing room where a group of fans were waiting. Jordan was finishing up ANOTHER newspaper interview, a television interview, and then he came around. "JORDAN!", "EBS!" they yelled. He put a smile on and pivoted toward them to make sure they were all obliged.

We walked up the ramp to the bus and when we walked around there was ANOTHER group of people waiting for him. "JORDAN!", "MR. EBERLE!" they shouted and he went over to the greet them. Young men, young women, kids all getting photos for their Facebook profiles.

I've seen this type of hysteria for the Riders but truthfully, I've never seen it for one individual player. And this is just on game day. Charities want him to be their spokesperson, people want endless quantities of souvenirs autographed for fundraisers, they want this, they want that.

Near as I can tell he's accomodated just about all of them. I suppose that comes with being a "Canadian Hockey Hero" as he's been labelled by the national media. At the very least, I suppose he's paid handsomely for it by the Oilers.

There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be a very productive NHL player.

KOOTENAY ICE - 4 vs. REGINA PATS - 5 (OT)

vs.

Tonight it is Kootenay Ice against the Regina Pats 7:00 pm at Brandt Centre, 6:35 pm Press Box Sports Pre-Game Show on 620 CKRM with Broadcaster Rod Pedersen and Colorman Al Dumba. The last three games Regina Pats played, resalted in shot outs, which they lost. With just 17 games left in the WHL season, the Pats are currently 7 points behind the Moose Jaw Warriors for the 8th and final playoff spot, and 8 back of the Prince Albert Raiders for 7th. place.

GAME SUMMARY: - By Ron C. Johnston - Kootenay Ice Jesse Ismond recieved a pass from Max Reinhart at the righ face-off circle. Jesse shot and the puck changed direction as he scored at 5:39.

In the second period Kootenay, short handed went up 2-0 when Dustin Sylvester stole the puck at Regina's Blue Line and went in on the net and scored on a back hand at 7:07. Regina came back with two goals with in three minutes, the first had Carter Ashton receive a pass and score at 8:52, assisted by Myles Bell and Hampus Gustafsson. The second had Andrew Reader scored when he went to the net and scored on a rebound at 11:49, assisted by Tomas Hricina and Mitch Spooner. Kootenay went up 3-2 three minutes later when Ismond received a pass from infront of the net and scored at 14:41, assisted by Matt Fraser.

Kootenay went up 4-2 when Ismond scored (his third goal) a hat trick as he skated across the goal crease and score at 8:12, assisted by Fraser. It looked like it was over for the Regina Pats, but Regina scored two goals in one minute in the dying moments. With Carter parked right infront of the net helped Cody Carlson score at 18:07, assisted by Colten Teubert and Jordan Eberle. Who else to tie the game and force over time, but (you guessed it) Eberle. He picked up a loose puck and cut in from the left and score with only 55 seconds remaining.

Regina Pats won their first over time this season. On the only shot of overtime, Jordan Eberle set up linemate Jordan Weal in Kootenay Ice left-hand circle and Weal slid it cross-ice to Mitch Spooner on the right faceoff dot and he buried it up under the crossbar at 2:15. Pats win 5-4. With Eberle's two points (39-40-79) it moves him into second place in the WHL scoring, only 2 points behind Vancouver's Craig Cunningham. Eberle's 39 goals puts him first in goals.

Sometimes this team makes it awfully tough to cheer for them and I don't blame the dozens of fans who headed to the exits with five or so minutes remaining. However apparently the Pats used it as motivation.

"We saw people getting up and leaving," said Pats assistant coach Shaun Sutter on the postgame show. "We were booed and we were heckled but we hung around and got it done. It seems nobody but our players and staff believes we can get into the playoffs but we're going to fight tooth and nail until this is all over."

Regina Pats goaltender, Damien Ketlo has had his ups and downs this season, battling back from both a sprained hip flexor and a partially separated shoulder. The one good thing the Pats can count on is how good he has been at home. Ketlo is 13-2-0-4 at the Brandt Centre.

The Pats have three defencemen in the team's top ten scorers. Colten Teubert leads with 33 points; Brandon Davidson has 30 and Cody Carlson are right behind him with 29.

Jordan Eberle is second in the WHL with 79 points, 2 points back of Craig Cunningham for the league lead. Eberle is the top goal scorer in the country.

It seem to perk up the Pats as Jordan Eberle received a pass from Brett Lefller and scored a power play goal at 10:59, also assisted by Colten Tuebert.

Red Deer's Cullen Morin shot from the centre blue line and Ryan Nugen-Hopkins parked infront of the net, scored on the rebound at 8:21 of the first period, also assisted by Adrej Kudma.
