REGINA PATS - 4 vs. SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS - 6

vs.

It would be a shame to count the Pats out of the playoffs yet. Eight games is a lot of hockey and there are sixteen points out there to collect. They are chasing the Broncos and they play them twice in the next five days. It will make for interesting radio and hopefully good hockey. Faceoff tonight is 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM with Broadcaster Rod Pedersen and Colorman Dan Plaster. (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm) and tomorrow night we'll be in Saskatoon for a 7:00 pm date, also on the mighty 620 CKRM.

Canada plays Slovakia tonight at 8:30 pm in an Olympics Mens Hockey semifinal in Vancouver, so listen to Regina Pats game on the radio and at the same time watch Canada play Slovakia on Television . Sunday's gold medal final is at 2:15 pm.

GAME SUMMARY: by Ron C. Johnston - Two quick power play goals with in 34 seconds gave Swift Current a 2-0 lead. The first was a 5 on 3 as Michael Stickland scored on the 2nd rebound in front of the net at 4:05, assisted by Travis Bobbee and Dowling. The second was scored by Lowrie at 4:39, assisted by Bobbee and Stepan Novotny. Regina Pats then scored on a 2 on 1 break as Matt Strueby scored on the Swift Currents' Goalie Clark's stick side at 12:09, assisted by Carter Ashton. The Broncos out shot the Pats 22-7 in the first period.

It was a turn around as Regina Pats came out a tied the game at 3-3 after the second period. It started with a 5 on 3 power play goal by Jordan Weal at 5:22, a pretty 3 way pass, assisted by Matt Strueby and Jordan Eberle. Swift Current's Stickland scored his second goal, as he scored in front of the net to the top part of the net at 7:01, assisted by Taylor Vause. Regina Pats Hampus Gustfsson scored a knuckle ball shot with only 20 seconds remaining in the period, assisted by Eberle and Weal.

Regina Pats went up 4-3 at the 4:13 minute mark as Eberle recieved a pass from Carter Ashton and scored to the top of the net, also assisted by Colten Teubert. Swift Current tied the game on what was a bad call. A hand pass that all four officals missed resulted in Eagin scored a power play goal at 15:43, assisted by Dowling and Bobbee. (From Rod Pedersen's blog, -The Pats were wild as they thought Swift Current forward Justin Dowling gloved the puck from the high slot back to Eakin. Replays later showed the puck touched a Pats stick in between).

How many games have the Regina Pats lost this season due to bad officiating. Swift Current then went up 5-4 as Bobbee scored at 17:04 and Vause scored with only 28 seconds remaining from his knees into an open net.

Thanks to the bad call Regina Pats will miss the play-offs for the second year. The only good thing that came out of this game is that Jordan Eberle and Jordan Weal have moved into a three way tie with Craig Cunningham of Vancouver Giants for the scoring title, all with 92 points.
