The Americans came out flying in the first seven minutes of the first period. Canada then took over and out played the United States the rest of the period out shooting them 20-5.

Two bad turn overs by Canadian's goalie Brodeur cost Canada the game. It took the Americans only 41 seconds to get on the score board as Brian Rafalski scored, the puck changed direction as it went off Canadian's Sidney Crosby into the left corner of the net, assisted by R. Suter. United States went up 2-0 when the Canadian goaltender Brodeur did some bad clearing of the puck as it went to the right face-off circle. Rafalski picked up the puck and skated in from the blue line toward the centre of the net and scored giving the United States a 2-0 lead

Canada closed the scoring to 2-1 at the 3:22 mark in the second period when Dany Heatley received a cross goal crease pass from Towes and tipped the puck into the right corner of the net. United States went up 3-1 when Chris Drury scored on a scramble in front of the net. Canada's goal tender Brodeur dived to clear the puck at the right side of the net. All Drury had to do was score into an empty net. After two periods Canada were out shooting the Americans 31-19.

In the third period, Jamie Langenbrunner scored a power play goal on a long shot from the left side of the blue line and went off the USA player's skate. Canada then scored a power play goal at 16:51. Nash passed the puck from the right corner in front of the net and Sidney Crosby tipped the puck in the right corner of the net. The Americans Ryan Kesler scored a pretty one handed shot into the empty net to close the scoring.
