SWIFT CURRENT - 4 vs. REGINA PATS - 3 (SO)

The Swift Current Broncos visit the Brandt Centre Saturday night at 7:00pm on 620 CKRM, Broadcaster Rod Pedersen and the Colorman Al Dumba (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35pm), also 94.1 FM (Jon Keen), Television Broadcast: Access 7 (Mitchell Blair/Kelly Remple).

Regina Pats will be playing three games against the Broncos and are only 5 points behind them. Every game is important for the Regina Pats as they are fighting for a play-off spot. After last nights games, Regina is 7 points behind the last play-off positon, Red Deer Rebels.

Regina Pats Eberle moved into a second place tie in the WHL scoring race with 66 points in only 32 games, while Calgary Hitmen's Brandon Kozun has played in 37 games. Jordan Weal of Regina is in 4th place with 65 points, while Vancouver Giants Craig Cunningham leads the scoring with 68 points.

GAME SUMMARY: On the CKRM pre-game interview with Broadcaster Rod Pedersen, Regina Pats Coach Curtis Hunt mentioned that he wanted a fast start, and that is what he got.

Regina Pats went up 3-0 after the first period, two goals by Jordan Eberle. The first goal had Eberle picking up Weal's pass at centre ice and skate down the right boards, cut in towards the net and back hand the puck between goaltender Mark Friesen's pads at 3:52. The second goal had Friesen behind the net, shot the puck to the left corner where Kyle Mulder intercepted the puck and pass it to Tomas Hurcina at the left side of the net. Hurcina took a quick shot and surprised Friesen at 5:48. Eberle's second goal had him get a turn over at the Broncos left circle and go to the net and score at 12:21. Regina Pats had scored 3 goals on only 8 shots. Morgan Clark then replaced Friesen in the Broncos net.

In the first period it was all Regina Pats while in the second period it was Swift Current's turn, as the Broncos scored three goals to tie the game at 3-3. The Broncos scored at 4:13 on a Regina Pats bresk down at their own blue line. Cody Eakin was allowed to skate in between the Pats two defenceman and score, assisted by Michael Stickland.

Justin Dowling recieved a pass from Stephan Novotny from the right side, and Dowling scored to the upper right corner of the net at 6:47. With only 20 seconds remaining in the period, Travis Bobbee sneaked in from the right boards and got a pass from Eakin at the left corner boards and scored, also assited by Derek Claffey.

There was no scoring in the third period or the over time. In the shoot out, Regina Pats Eberle and Strueby were stopped by Morgan Clark, while Swift Current's Eagin and Brad Hoban scored.
