With over 200 NHL delecates at the game they saw what turned out to be a hard fought game that had Don Cherry's team score two short handed goals to take a 4-2 victory over Bobby Orr. It was only Cherry's fourth win. It was Orr's team that came out flying in the first period, as they had already 4 shots by the 3 minute mark and were out shooting Cherry's club 13-7 by the mid point of the period, (Stats from the writer).
The only goal in the opening period was by Orr's Team. Nino Niederreiter parked infront of the net. He received a pass from Jeff Skinner at the right corner and scored at 17:22. With 7:20 left in the second period Cherry's team almost tied the game as Hall carried the puck from centre ice and shot, only to have the rebound go of the post. Several seconds later Cherry's team did tie the game as Emerson Etem picked up the puck in his own end and skated down the left boards and left a shot go from the left face-off circle at 13:06, assisted by Alex Petrovic.
There were four goals scored in the final period. Orr's team went ahead 2-1 as Skinner tipped in a slap shot from the right blue at 6:07, assisted by Brandon Garmley and Mark Pysyk. Thirty-four seconds latter Cherry's team tied the game at 2-2 when Jordan Weal at the side of the net tipped in Alex Petrovic's shot from the Right blue line at 6:42, also assisted by Devante Smith-Peley. With about 8 minutes remaining in the period Orr's team had a 2 man advantage but could not score. Then with only 7:20 left in the period, Ryan Martidale of Orr's Team hit the post. Cherry's Team came right back and scored their second short handed goal as Hall carried the puck down the left boards and passed to Ryan Spooner who was skating from the right side and scored, the goal was also assisted by Brandon Archibald. Bobby Orr pulled his goalie with 1:47 seconds remaining only to have it back fire as Jordan Weal passed to Louis-Marc Aubrey who scored into an empty net.
