REGINA PATS - AL DUMBA - CKRM COLOR MAN

For Al Dumba, a Dysart native, being part of the Regina Pats was a
wonderful and rewarding experince.

"As kids, we dreamt about playing for the Regina Pats, not about playing in the NHL," said Dumba.

During his sting with the Pats, Dumba found the net 71 times which caught the eye of the NHL scouts. He was drafted by the NHL's Washington Capitals and the WHA's Edmonton Oilers. (Photo: 1974-1975 Season)

Dumba spent parts of three seasons wearing a Regina Pats uniform before heading out to play professional hockey with Dayton and Fort Wayne in the International Hockey League.

After his playing days were done, Dumba returned to his hockey roots in 1991 as an assistant coach with the Pats.

"I had the great opportunity to coach with Brad Tippet and Bill Hicke," said Dumba. "I had a lot of fun coaching."

In 1992-93 Dumba became a co-coach with Bill Hicke. "Bill hicke was a mentor to me," said Dumba, "Bill let me run practice while he took care of the administrative side of the team."

Dumba felt his success as a hockey player contributed to his success as a coach. "I was lucky to have been expose to different systems and different philosophies in pro hockey which helped me as a coach," said Dumba.

Today, Dumba can still be found around the Brandt Centre as a member of the 620 CKRM broadcast team, a position he has held for the last 13 years.

According to the voice of the Regina Pats, Rod Pedersen, Al Dumba is one of the most genuine people in the world.

"Al is one of the most positive people I have ever met," said Pedersen. "Wed have tremendous chemistry on the air, which helps to produce a pretty good product for our listeners."

"It's fun to be involved," said Dumba. "The hockey fraternity is small and I really enjoy being around the guys."

When he is not at the Brandt Centre, Dumba is following his son Jared's hockey career. Jared followed in his father's footsteps and played in the WHL with Saskatoon before finding sucess professionally in the Central hockey League and the International Hockey League.

Away from the rink, Dumba has found sucess in the investment field, as the owner of Al Dumba Investors Group.

"Hockey taught me that you need to work to be the best you can be, no matter what you are doing," said Dumba.

Dumba continues to enjoy his time with the hockey club. "It is a special feeling to be part of the Regina Pats," he said.
